My Family

I'm going to paint a quick picture of my family for you.  This happened earlier tonight.

All of us are sitting in the living room at my cousin's house.  Naturally, my mother is sitting next to me and she's laughing at something I said about ringtones for cellphones.  To my right, on the floor is Nik.  He's listening to cats meow on his new phone.  Next to him is my dad.  He's pretending to do something 'cool' with his hightech-oldphone.  For a split second I think to myself: "This family is so obsessed with technology".  Who is next to my dad on the couch?  Oh that's Trent.  He's playing with a Star Wars action figure.  (?!!?)

I love 'um.

Be Joyful-It's summertime!

*****N.F.ALERT-Nick Fanton and I hugged.  ...Goodbye.  SHOOTWHYDIDSCHOOLHAVETOEND?!?  I watched him clean his oven.  And I was there when Kate (his RA) checked him out.  This is the part where Luke G. would say: "Kate that's inappropriate.  You shouldn't check-out your residents."  I miss you already N.F.  Text me everything you do everyday.  Every five minutes.
PASTOR ALERT-It was my last service at church tonight before I leave for Alaska. On a scale of 1 to 10 how sad am I?  LIKE A FIFTY.  Did I want to cry?  YOUBET.  Do you think he'll miss me?

JEN HORCHLER ALERT

This is mostly for Jen Horchler and the fact that I want to always remember this moment.  So, I'm going to blog about it.

Let me just start by saying that Jen Horchler is singing showtunes in our apartment right now.  Does she know I'm writing about her? No. She's too busy telling me she hates showtunes...but she's singing them at the top of her lungs.  Apparently she was in a play when she was younger so she's looking up all the songs on youtube and shouting "I REMEMBER THIS ONE" and "I KNOW THIS ONE".

Let me share the dialogue she is having with herself right now as she stares at her computer:

-this is so funny
-this is the best day ever
-oh I remember, this one starts slow and then it goes to a party
Sings along
-oh gosh, that's...not-OH I LOVE THIS PART(!!!!!)
Sings along
-oh gosh, why can't i remember this one
-ah, shoot doggie, don't worry,
-"the morning sun with rise."  Oh this song is so good!"
-"Look! A BABY!"
-What do you want.
-Oh this one's gonna be good roomie. don't worry.  this one's called rain.
I wonder if they have this on itunes.  I'm gonna freakin buy it if they do.
-"Once on This Island"
-This is the end, this is the end, this is where everyone just leaves...filled.
-This is a sad one roomie.  Cries
She is making a lot of sunrise-like arm motions, her hand is on her heart, and every once in a while she shoves her fist in the air.
-ROOMIE. we would dance like this, going down, saying bye to everyone!
-That was my favorite one. Oh shoot I'm so full.  That was so much fun! I don't even know what hit me.

The end.

All of that was Jen.  Just now.  Is she the best roomie ever?  I think so.  You should meet her and ask her to be your BFF.

You wont regret it,
Love Aranda

P.S.  We drew abs on our stomachs before we went to the UP pool today. AND we matched and ate dinner at Heritage.  It was a great BowlesRoomieFinale.

GUEST BLOG: End of the Year Address

BY CARTER (THE BEST RA EVER/FUTURE SGA PRESIDENT OF APU)

1)  What is your favorite color?
-It has always been bright neon orange color. You know that color that always catches your eye and then you say in your head, "I can't handle that." I on the other hand can handle it and love it. Like the color the of the blogspot logo.
2)  Favorite meal of the day?
-Lunch by far. Lunch is the meal that is always surrounded by friends. Here at APU my friends loyally WALK it up daily. For that reason alone, I would say lunch is my favorite meal.
3)  Describe Bowles in one word.
-Spontaneous
4)  How has being an RA prepared you to be President?
-Well logistically it has helped prepare me in understanding how to work with a staff. Whether through staff development, scheduling, or administrating, being an RA challenges you work well with a staff no matter how crazy they are. Like Luke Guitierez(however you spell his spanish name). He's nuts. usually drunk.. but mostly nuts.
-I think RA has honestly prepared me relationally though. Being an RA at APU is all about knowing how to cultivate a community that encourages camaraderie. Only my residents can be the judge of how good I was at doing this, but non-the-less I feel I learned a lot about developing an environment while being an RA.
-Also I can't stress enough about how much I have learned about time management being an RA and I know I will learn even more next year as president.
5)  What is Jon Wallace like?
- Well to me, Jon is bully. He makes fun of my hair, my hometown, and my favorite sports teams to just start... Other than that though, he's a great guy. No, I really am amazed at what he does and how he does everything with so much intentionality and integrity. Jon also loves giving loooong, historical prefaces to the stories that he shares. It could be as simple as saying that the first car was built in the early 1900's, but Jon would somehow make it 10 minute history lesson. This most likely comes from Jon's love to learn and read. He reads more books than almost anyone I know, which is ridiculous when you think about it because he is also one of the busiest people I know. The last thing I will tell you about Jon is that he loves Abe Lincoln. Not totally sure why, but he has old Abe stuff all over his office. I think he tries to lead with integrity like him, and to also never stop learning. These two things I can clearly see in Jon.
6)  How do you feel about public speaking?
-Ha, I don't really like it all. I mean, I'm ok with doing it, but I rather not have so much attention on me. Yet, it's something important to be able to do, so I feel like I just have to suck it up sometimes and just do it.
7)  Do you need me and Jen to be in charge of your safety?  She’s a certified lifeguard.  And I know kickboxing…or something.
-Yes. Without a doubt.
8)  What will you miss most about just being Carter?
- This is a great question. This is one reason I am excited to live off campus in a house with just a couple of my really good friends. But honestly, other than having to be on my A game more often than now, I really hope that I will always just be Carter. That I won't ever be seen as someone other than just a regular joe from Kansas of all places and that having the position of president will only create more down to earth conversations with people rather than more professional business ones.
9)  Lastly, who are your favorite residents?
- No comment...  (HEMEANSARANDAANDJEN)

-CARTER

FINALS

You may be finding it hard to be joyful during finals, so here are a few tips:

Don't study.

Now you have time to do fun stuff instead!

"Fun Things to do Instead of Studying at APU"
1)  Text all of your friends who are studying.  Say something like "URGENT. CALL ME."  and see how many of them actually call you.  When they do, start telling an exaggerated story about your life.  This will hopefully take up a good hour of their study-time.
2)  Take up knitting. You use your brain and have a product to show for all your hard work.
3)  Rearrange your room.  Put everything that belongs to your roommate in the living room.  Tell them you don't associate with people who "study".
4)  Put on your turtleneck/fannypack and break out the boombox. It's time to have a party in the library.
5)  Throughout the day walk into all the classrooms and apologize for disrupting.  Then ask if anyone in there knows where the Chapel Final is.
6)  Buy all of the scantrons and bluebooks on campus.  NOW WHAT APU?

Love Always,
Aranda

I'M DONE WITH MACROECONOMICS (if I passed it...)  AMENPRAISEJESUSHALLELUJAH.

Just Wondering

What does it mean if you blog about your pastor one night, go to a coffee shop the next morning, and he walks through the door right after you?  Does this mean God loves me?  Or did I subconsciously just stalk him?

Maybe he's stalking me.

One thing is for sure: He doesn't read this blog, because he didn't seem freaked out that I was here doing my Macroeconomics homework at 7 in the morning on a Sunday.

In reference to tip number 7 from yesterday:
TIME: 7:00-7:45am
DATE: SUNDAY
PLACE: THE COFFEE SHOP

Be Joyful!  Have a great, relaxed, study-filled Sunday.

Love,
Aranda

*****N.F. ALERT-Just because I'm adding Pastor sightings to this blog, it doesn't diminish the fact that you are still our number one stalkable person.
